Sharing & Collaboration
Share your mind maps with others using share links or email invitations, and control who can view or edit.
Share Links
Share links let you give anyone access to a personal map with a single URL. Only the map owner can create or manage share links.
Creating a share link:
- Open the map and click the Share button in the editor sidebar.
- In the Share link section, choose Can view or Can edit from the dropdown.
- Click Create link. The link appears in a text field — click the copy button to copy it to your clipboard.
The link shows who can access it and the access level (e.g., "Anyone with this link can view").
Revoking a share link:
Click Revoke below the link. Once revoked, anyone who tries to use the link will see a "Link not found" message.
Inviting Collaborators
As the map owner, you can invite specific people to collaborate by email.
- Open the share dialog from the editor sidebar.
- Enter the person's email address in the Email address field.
- Choose a role from the dropdown: Editor or Viewer.
- Click Invite.
If the person already has a StitchGraph account, they are added as a collaborator immediately and you'll see "Added!". If they don't have an account yet, an invite email with a share link is sent and you'll see "Invite sent!".
Access Levels
Each person with access to a shared map has one of three roles:
| Role | Permissions |
|---|---|
| Owner | Full control — edit the map, invite and remove collaborators, create and revoke share links, and manage all sharing settings. |
| Editor | Edit nodes and edges. Cannot invite collaborators, manage share links, or remove other collaborators. |
| Viewer | Read-only access. Can view the map but cannot make changes. |
Accepting a Share Link
When someone shares a map link with you, clicking it opens a landing page that shows:
- The map title.
- Who shared it (e.g., "Shared by Jane").
- Your access level ("You'll have edit access" or "You'll have view access").
- An Open Map button.
If you are not signed in, you'll be asked to sign in first. After signing in, you'll be redirected back to the share link page where you can click Open Map to accept.
Managing Collaborators
The share dialog shows a People with access section that lists the map owner and all current collaborators with their roles.
The share dialog is accessible to anyone with map access — owners, editors, and viewers can all see the collaborator list. However, only the map owner can manage sharing settings:
- Invite new collaborators by email.
- Create or revoke share links.
- Remove collaborators using the remove button next to their name.
Sharing and Organizations
Sharing works differently for personal maps and organization maps:
- Personal maps use share links and email invitations as described in this guide.
- Organization maps are accessible to all org members by default (or restricted to specific teams). They do not use share links — access is controlled through org membership and team assignments.
For details on org and team access control, see the Organizations guide. To organize shared maps into folders, see Folders & Templates.
