Organizations

Organizations let you collaborate on mind maps with your team. This guide covers organization creation, roles, invitations, members, and teams.

What are Organizations?

An organization is a shared workspace that belongs to a group — a company, a team, or any collection of users who need to collaborate on mind maps together.

Maps created inside an organization are separate from your personal maps. Organization maps are accessible to all members of the organization (or restricted to a specific team), while your personal maps remain private to you.

Note: Personal vs. Organization maps: You can always tell which workspace a map belongs to by checking the workspace switcher at the top of the dashboard. Personal maps only appear in your personal workspace; organization maps only appear in the organization's dashboard.

Creating an Organization

Any registered user can create a new organization. When you create an organization, you automatically become its Owner.

  1. Go to your Dashboard.
  2. Click the workspace switcher in the top navigation bar and select Create organization.
  3. Enter a display name for the organization (e.g., "Acme Corp").
  4. A URL slug is generated automatically from the name with a random suffix. You can customize the slug using the edit button, but the random suffix cannot be removed. The slug must contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens.
  5. Click Create organization. You will be taken to the organization's dashboard.

Organization Roles

Every member of an organization has one of three roles. Roles control what actions a member can perform.

Note: There can only be one Owner per organization. Admins have nearly the same permissions as the Owner but cannot delete the organization.

Inviting Members

Owners and Admins can invite new members to an organization by email.

To send an invitation:

  1. Open the organization's Settings (gear icon on the org dashboard, or via the workspace switcher).
  2. Go to the Members tab.
  3. Enter the invitee's email address and choose a role (Admin or Member).
  4. Click Send Invite. The invitee receives an email with a link to accept the invitation.

Accepting an invitation:

  1. Click the Accept Invitation link in the email, or navigate to the invite URL directly.
  2. If you do not have a StitchGraph account, you will be prompted to register first.
  3. Once accepted, the organization will appear in your workspace switcher and you will have access to its maps.
Note: Invite links: Each invitation generates a unique one-time link. If an invitee loses their email, an Admin can resend the invitation from the Members settings page.
Note: Role restrictions: Only the Owner can invite members with the Admin role. Admins can only invite new members as Member.

Teams

Teams are sub-groups within an organization. Use teams to give a specific subset of members access to particular maps without sharing those maps with the entire organization.

Creating a team:

  1. Go to Settings → Teams.
  2. Click New Team and enter a team name.
  3. Click Create.

Adding members to a team:

  1. Open the team from Settings → Teams → [Team Name].
  2. Click Add Member and select from the list of organization members.
  3. Choose a team role: Lead (can manage team membership) or Member.
Note: A user must already be a member of the organization before they can be added to a team.

Map Scopes: Personal vs. Organization

When you create a map, you choose where it lives — in your personal workspace or inside an organization.

  • Personal maps are only visible to you (unless you share them via a share link or email invitation).
  • Organization maps are visible to all members of the organization by default.

Creating an organization-scoped map:

  1. Switch to the organization workspace using the workspace switcher in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click Start blank on the organization dashboard to create a new map. A visibility dialog will let you choose between Org-wide or Teams access.

For details on sharing personal maps via links and email invitations, see the Sharing & Collaboration guide. To organize maps into folders, see Folders & Templates.

Team Maps

A team map is an organization map whose visibility is restricted to one or more teams. Each team is assigned a Viewer or Editor role, so you can give some teams read-only access while others can edit.

This is useful when different departments or project groups need their own private maps within the organization.

Assigning a map to teams:

  1. Open the Map Visibility dialog for an organization map (from the map settings or during map creation).
  2. Select the Teams scope.
  3. Add one or more teams and choose a role for each — Viewer (read-only) or Editor (can edit). At least one team is required.
  4. Save the changes. The map will now only appear for members of the selected teams (and Owners/Admins).
Tip: Organization Owners and Admins can always see all maps in the organization, regardless of team assignment. For Org-wide maps, you can also add team role overrides to give specific teams a higher access level than the base role.

To organize team maps into folders, see Folders & Templates.

Managing Members

Owners and Admins can change member roles and remove members from the organization.

Changing a member's role:

  1. Go to Settings → Members.
  2. Find the member in the list.
  3. Use the role dropdown next to their name to select a new role.
  4. The change takes effect immediately.
Note: Only the Owner can promote a member to the Admin role.

Removing a member:

  1. Go to Settings → Members.
  2. Click the Remove button next to the member's name.
  3. Confirm the action. The member will lose access to all organization maps immediately.
Note: Removing a member does not delete any maps they created within the organization. Those maps remain accessible to other organization members.

Organization Settings

Owners and Admins can manage the organization's display name from the Settings page.

General settings:

  • Display name — the human-readable name shown in the workspace switcher and dashboard header. This can be changed at any time.
Note: The organization's URL slug is set when the organization is created and cannot be changed afterwards. It appears in URLs like /org/your-slug/dashboard.

Deleting an organization:

Only the organization Owner can delete an organization. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

  1. Go to Settings → General.
  2. Scroll to the Danger Zone section.
  3. Click Delete Organization and confirm by typing the organization name.
Warning: Deleting an organization permanently removes all organization maps, teams, and member associations. Personal maps belonging to individual members are not affected.
