Folders & Templates

Organize your maps into folders and use templates to start new maps from a pre-built structure.

Folders Overview

Folders let you group related maps together on the dashboard. They work like directories on your computer — you can nest sub-folders inside folders for deeper organization.

Folders are available at three levels:

  • Personal folders — organize maps in your personal workspace.
  • Organization folders — organize maps in an org's dashboard, visible to all org members.
  • Team folders — organize maps within a team's dashboard, visible to team members.

Creating and Navigating Folders

Creating a folder:

  1. Click the New Folder button in the dashboard toolbar.
  2. Enter a folder name (up to 255 characters) and confirm.

You can create sub-folders inside any folder. There is no hard limit on nesting depth.

Navigating folders:

Click a folder card to view its contents. A breadcrumb trail appears at the top (e.g., All Maps / Design) — click All Maps to return to the root.

Each folder card shows a summary of its contents (e.g., "3 maps · 1 subfolder").

Renaming and deleting folders:

Click the ··· menu on a folder card to Rename or Delete it.

Note: Deleting a folder does not delete the maps inside it — they are moved back to the dashboard root. Sub-folders are moved up one level to the deleted folder's parent.

Organizing Maps into Folders

There are two ways to move a map into a folder:

  • Drag and drop — drag a map card directly onto a folder card.
  • Actions menu — click the ··· button on a map card and select Move to folder, then choose the target folder.

To move a map back out of a folder, open the ··· menu and select Move to dashboard.

Folder Permissions

Who can create and manage folders depends on the workspace:

WorkspaceWho can create/manage foldersWho can view folders
PersonalYou (the workspace owner)You
OrganizationOwners and AdminsAll org members
TeamOrg Owners, Admins, and Team LeadsAll team members

For more on organization and team roles, see the Organizations guide.

Built-in Templates

StitchGraph includes three built-in templates to help you start quickly. Access them by clicking the Templates button on the dashboard.

  • Brainstorm — explore ideas with branches for problems, audience, ideas, constraints, wild bets, and next steps.
  • Project Plan — organize goals, scope, milestones, workstreams, risks, team, and timeline.
  • Meeting Notes — capture agenda, discussion, decisions, action items, parking lot, and follow-up.

Clicking a template creates a new map pre-populated with that template's structure.

Custom Templates

You can save any map as a custom template to reuse its structure for future maps.

Saving a custom template:

  1. Open the map you want to use as a template.
  2. Click Save as Template from the toolbar menu, the map card ··· menu on the dashboard, or the command palette (Cmd/Ctrl+K).
  3. Enter a name (required, up to 200 characters) and an optional description (up to 500 characters), then confirm.

Using a custom template:

Click the Templates button on the dashboard. Your saved templates appear in the My Templates section of the dropdown, below the built-in templates. Clicking one creates a new map from that template.

Tip: Custom templates are currently saved to your personal account. They appear in any workspace where you have the Templates button available.
